Gifts, Travel, and Writing Going Forth

David Mattingly, creator of the wonderful cover art for Liaden Universe® novels Saltation, Mouse and Dragon, and Ghost Ship sent us an animation of the Ghost Ship cover, which you can see here:  Ghost Ship

This kind gift inspired me to link to all of the artists who have created images for Liaden Universe® novels and stories over the years — check them out over in the sidebar.

Why yes, we do have works eligible for the Hugo Awards

It’s silly season in the SF/F world; the season when All the Writers remind All the Readers, and especially those who vote on the Hugo Awards, which of their works are eligible for Hugo consideration.

The 2014 Hugo Awards, for works published in 2013, will be presented at the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention, LonCon 3, to be held in London, England, August 14-18, 2014

If you’re not sure if you’re eligible to nominate and/or vote in the 2014 Hugo Awards, here’s the link to the rules.

Sharon Lee and Steve Miller published several works in 2013, which are eligible for consideration. They are:

Novel:
Necessity’s Child, Baen, February 2013
Trade Secret, Baen, November 2013

Novelette:
“Eleutherios,” Baen.com, January 2013
“Moon’s Honor,” Splinter Universe, February 2013

New free Liaden story at Splinter Universe and Boskone news

For January we’ve added a new story to the line-up over at Splinter Universe — you can find it there now. We plan to add a story each month as well as the occasional guest story as well. The new story, “The Rifle’s First Wife” is a novelette of just over 13000 words and will be online for a few months. If you’d like to support these expanded efforts, read the story, and find a donate link at the end.

Meanwhile, as things stand now Sharon will not be at Boskone the weekend between Valentine’s Day and President’s Day, but Steve will. Look for a Friends of Liad Breakfast, probably Saturday February 15 in one of the hotel restaurants. Steve had a full slate of program items, a reading, signing and kaffeeklatsch on schedule.

Alliance of Equals by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller

The Question of the Month is apparently, “When will the next Liaden novel be published; it’s been so long since Dragon in Exile came out; I’m starving over here; feed me!”

. . .or words to that effect.

The Answer to the Question of the Month is!

Alliance of Equals is the next Liaden title; it will be published, in hardcover, by Baen, on July 5, 2016.

Also?  Dragon in Exile came out, in hardcover, on June 2, 2015, which really isn’t all that long ago.

Also, also, the eArc edition, if any, usually appears two to three months ahead of the hardcover publication.  So, you’re looking. . .April/May 2016 for the Alliance of Equals eArc.

We have been asked to write a short story in support of Alliance of Equals, which ought to be published to Baen.com on June 15, 2016.

The mass market paperback e...

Publication Date for Alliance of Equals
The Question that Ate October, here at our email boxes and around the web, is: When will the next Liaden novel come out?  Can I get an eArc?  Sample chapters?  Something?

The Answer to this question is:  Alliance of Equals, the nineteenth novel-length adventure in the Liaden Universe®, aka “the book after Dragon in Exile” is scheduled to be released in hardcover on July 5, 2016.

And, in an attempt to forestall the Inevitable:  Baen makes the eArc editions of novels, if any, available somewhere between two to three months ahead of the hardcover publication.  So, you’re looking. . .April/May 2016 for the Alliance of Equals eArc.

Mass Market Edition of Dragon in Exile
Baen will be releasing the paperback edition of Dragon in Exile, which was p...

When Clan Korval knows your name. . .

Abandoned on a strange port by a scam gone bad, his license to pilot rescinded, and his pockets very much to let, Fer Gun pen’Uldra was teetering between trouble, more trouble, and bad trouble. Cornered in a cheap bar by a too-knowledgeable stranger with an unlikely offer, Fer Gun realized having no money and no license might be the least of his troubles. Clan Korval knew his name and that proposal was hard to refuse. ...
